After our bout with IPAs during last show, I didn't feel like my mouth was punished with enough bitterness and hoppitude. Today I picked up the Dogfish Head Imperial IPA which shatters the beer ABV meter by clocking in at 18 to 20 percent.
The aroma is of pure hops, what you would expect to be the bitterest of bitter beers is actually not. It's a very sweet beer with a very strong taste of hops. Like any good IPA, the finish is what punishes you, and this beer does it with the same kind of kick you would get from a weak liquor.
Drinking this beer is a battle, but it's a battle I sought out, and am glad I fought. While it may not be easy to drink at first, the beer gets easier with each sip as your head seems to lift from your neck.
About half way through the bottle my tongue became numb, but who needs a toungue? All I need is more beers with a higher ABV than strong wine!
Taste: 4/10 (higher than average IPAs for me)
Aroma: 8/10 (I love the smell of hops)
Drunkenness: 10/10 (One bottle will do you fine, take two for suicide)
Overall: 7/10 (I'd buy it again, but at $8 a bottle, it's a special occasion thing)
